December 18, 2009, Newsletter Issue #186: The Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo

Tip of the Week

The Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo is a 30 acre park located at 13019 Catoctin Furnace Rd. in Thurmont, Maryland, that offers more ways to meet, feed, and sometimes touch exotic animals than any other place in the area and beyond. From bears to boas, macaws to monkeys, panthers to prairie dogs, you can meet over 350 exotic animals. From tiger, jaguar, cougar and bear to deer, tortoise, chinchilla and hedgehog, this zoo has it all. Lizard, alligator and python are among the reptiles you will meet and you can even hand-feed goats, sheep, donkeys, ducks and other animals in their petting area.

Privately owned here's a direct quote from their website…

"Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo is a private, family-owned and professionally operated facility. Since 1966, animals have been our extended family. We know their names, histories, and needs. And we know how important wildlife and their natural habitats are to the future. We hope that through our personal style of education and introduction, these wonderful creatures will become your extended family, too. Together, weŽll make sure they and their wild-living relatives enjoy the future they deserve." For information call 301-271-3180 or visit their website...http://www.cwpzoo.com
